Ayurveda is a Sanskrit term, made up of the words "ayus" and "veda." "Ayus" means life and "Veda" means knowledge or science. The term "ayurveda" thus means 'the knowledge of life' or 'the science of life'. According to the ancient Ayurvedic scholar Charaka, "ayu" comprises the mind, body, senses and the soul. The two basic aims of Ayurveda are to prevent illness, heal the sick and preserve life. This can be summed up as follows: To protect health and prolong life ("Swasthyas swasthya rakshanam") To eliminate diseases and dysfunctions of the body ("Aturasya vikar prashamanamcha") Thus the conceptual and operational framework of Ayurveda is very extensive and it includes all the essentials to make a man healthy and happy. It comprises the study of right conduct (dharma), which is necessary for the healthy growth of society where the man lives. Additionally it deals with the philosophical aspect of life, the knowledge that contributes greatly to the wellbeing and contentment of all human beings. Dr. G. D. Ayurvedic Medical College, conducting B.A.M.S. Degree course, since November 1991. The Y.M.T. Ayurvedic Medical College is affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik and recognized by Central Council of Indian Medicine, Ministry of Health, Government of India, New Delhi, an apex body in the field of Indian system of Medicine. The College has an intake capacity of 80 students per annum. This is a fully fledged college which provides all facilities to its students. By the year 2010 there were nearly about 900 Doctors who have passed out from this college and rendering the Health Services throughout the Maharashtra State. Many Students of this college have ranked in the merit list of the B.A.M.S. examinations held by the University of Bombay and Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. The Ayurveda college is has well functioning B.A.M.S. and UG courses. We conduct quality PG courses, affiliated by M.U.H.S., Nashik. We continuously train generations of students and mould them into outstanding Ayurveda practitioners and excellent teachers in the field of Ayurveda. We organize workshops, guest lectures, seminars, clinical meetings designed to educate Ayurveda students, Ayurveda practitioners & general public regarding the effectiveness of Ayurveda. We have highly qualified & experienced faculty. Our college has 7.5 Acres of land where in more than 4000 Ayurvedic plants of more than 300 species are planted. A scientific Nakshatra Udyan is developed by the department of Dravyaguna in this area. There is a Central Research lab with all modern equipments developed for UG & PG students to carry out their research works for drug standardization. Infrastructure Library The Library is a centre of knowledge, which quenches the thrust of our faculty and students. Our library is one of the oldest and is a mine of printed and electronic learning materials, housed in well ventilated spacious halls with pleasant atmosphere. It is adequately equipped with specially designed furniture's. We have subscribed sufficient number of books including reference books, periodicals, national, international & technical journals for enriching the knowledge of faculties & students. The library is equipped with an LCD projector and broadband internet and Xerox facilities. Our library is rich and catering the needs of both Under Graduate and Post Graduate sections. We have made separate seating arrangement for our staff, boy?s & girl students, library processing room and computer section. laboratory For conducting practical's and experiments for Under Graduate and Post Graduate students, the college has following sophisticated and fully equipped laboratories:- Sharir Kriya Laboratory. Sharir Rachana Laboratory / Dissection Hall. Dravyagun Laboratory. Rasashastra Bhaishajya Kalpana Laboratory. Rognidan Laboratory. Post Graduate Research laboratory Though Ayurveda and other systems have their own diagnostic tools, modern medical technology is used to improve the ancient principles. In this clinical laboratories, many useful investigations are carried out. This helps in validating the diagnosis made on the basis of Ayurvedic principles and also helps in monitoring the progress in treatment. Our staff and technicians manning these laboratories helps the clinical students to obtain practical approach to diagnosis. Herbal Garden Our college has 7.5 Acres of land where in more than 2000 Ayurvedic plants we planted of more than 300 species. A scientific Nakshatra Udyan is developed by the department of Dravyaguna in this area. We educated the students thus they will know every details of all these medicinal plants from their identification to the products available in market. Medicinal plant Garden & Herbal Museum of Dravyaguna Department is worth to mention. Especially different area-wise plant specimens are arranged in the Departmental Museum for eg. Flora of Rare Himalayan Plants, Flora of Western Ghat, Flora of Keral etc. AYURVEDIYA AUSHADHA NIRMANA SHALA Dr G.D.Pol Fondation has its own Pharmacy. In this pharmacy, there are total 10 No. of workers. About 230 No. of medicines are prepared regularly here. Postgraduate scholars conduct their practical work related to their dissertation in the pharmacy. Brief details regarding this Pharmacy are as follows. The Pharmacy has following sections ? Raw Material Storage : Most of the raw material used over here is purchased from tribal people. Our institution has given training of good collection practices to these people. Herbal drugs like Hirada, Behada, Aamla, Honey, etc. are purchased from them. In this way, we get authentic plants & they get employment. Raw material is first examined by experts then only it is used for further processing.This authenticated raw material is sorted out & stored in clean containers. As per requirement it is used in various formulations. Grinder section : In this section, selected herbal raw material is powdered in the trade grinders. It is powdered as per requirement of powder size. For example; coarse powder is required for decoction, fine powder is required for ingestion, facial treatment, etc. This powdered material is made uniform using various mesh. Sneha Kalpana (medicated oil & ghee) section : Here various medicated oils & ghees are prepared like Bala taila, Triphala ghrita, Bhringaraj taila, etc. Various decoctions are also prepared using gas burner, diesel burners and traditional chulha in this section. Puta section : Here, Puta sanskara (Calcinations process) is done on various mineral drugs. Mineral drugs could not get assimilated in the body as it is. As per classical texts, after calcinations process i.e. after bhasmikaran, drug becomes safe, effective in small doses, gets better assimilated in the body. Heat or no. of putas are given as per stated in the classical texts. As a heat media, cow dung cakes are used. Different temperature is required for different minerals and metals. So different sized pits are prepared & heat is given as per the requirement. Bhavana Section : In this section, wet Grinders are used for bhavana sanskara. Dry herbal or herbomineral powders are triturated with liquids like juice, milk, decoction, till the liquid is completely soaked in it. Number of bhavana is decided as per classical texts. Bhavana sanskara is also required in bhasma preparation. Many formulations like Arogyavardhini, Sootashekhara, Tribhuvanakirti, etc. require bhavana sanskara. Tray dryer : After Bhavana Sanskara, processed material is dried in this tray dryer. Tabletting / Capsule Section : Processed, dried material further undergoes granulation process. This process is done manually. Then tabletting of this granulated material is done as per the dose regimen (125 mg to 500 mg). Capsules are filled manually with capsule filling machine. At a time 200 capsules can be filled by this machine. Avaleha Section : Avaleha is prepared in this section. Mainly Chyavanprash is prepared in this section. This machine is also used for preparing Shatavari kalpa, Gandharva haritaki, Shatadhouta ghrita, etc. Asava Section : In this section, various Asava and Arishta are prepared. Natural fermentation process is specialized Ayurvedic pharmaceutical procedure. In this procedure, decoction or juice is added with jaggrey, honey, sugar, dhataki pushpa & kept in wooden containers. Due to fermentation natural alcohol is generated. This process is designed for better preservation of drugs, maintaining palatability of the drug. Powder Section : All the required powders are stored in this section. As per requirements powders are used for preparing various formulations. Packing Section : Finished products like tablets, capsules, medicated oils, ghee, bhasma, decoctions, etc. are packed as per requirement. These drugs are packed in user-friendly packing. Finished Goods Storage : Finished, packed drugs are stored in this section. As per the order from Ayurved Rugnalaya - Sane Guruji Arogya Kendra, they are provided. Administration section : Here, detailed documentation is done regarding purchase, manufacturing, packing and dispensing. Monthly reports are documented regarding purchase, processing, sale & the remaing stock. Hostel Dr G.D.Pol Foundation provides separate residential accommodations are provided for boys and girl students. All the required amenities are provided as well. The care of these students is taken by the rector, who is specially appointed to look after them round the clock. Rooms have basic amenities like table, chair, cupboard, bed, blankets, pillow etc. we have 24 hrs water supplies, drinking water is supplied through Aqua guard. TV facility is provided as well. Heaters are provided in each and every bathroom. Dining hall is available for dinners and lunch. There are lady guards who guard the girls? hostel 24 hours in 3 shifts. Through cleaning is done by our employees.
